"Assessor J. J. Wells', of Morrow county, had been assigned the sub ject of assessing livestock, but was not present and this topic was dis cussed by other members of the con vention. C. P. Strain of Umatilla county, had a paper on the classifica tion and assessment of rural real es tate, while the question of tlhe as sessment of timber x land was "dis cussed by W. F. Greene, of Jackson, "Fruit lands and orchards was the topic presented by Jasper Wickham of Hood River, and E. Pollock, of Jose phine. Assessment of city real estate was handled by H. E. Reed, of Mult nomah. "Judge McKnight, of Linn, who wis for many yeans assessor of that county, gave a very interesting talk on equalization of assessments anil complimented the assessors wiho are keeping the valuations to a reasonable standard, since reducing values would not relieve the tax burdens.
