Seattle, Wash., Feb. 22. Under an official test given to 12-year-old chil dren in the public schools, most of the official! of Seattle are feeble minded. Some of them are nearly "imbeciles." According to the much-discussed Binet test, the ranks, of the mentally unsound have been augmented by the following distinguished company: Mayor Gill, two councilmen, the coun ty clerk, Sheriff Bob Hodge, and every member of the board of educa tion," including the secretary. The Binet test has been widely crit icized. Under its provisions hundreds of public school pupils have been de clared mentally below par. Two French psychologists invented it. When a pupil's work begins to fall below par, the is put through a men tal effiency test. If he fails; he is then known as deficient A totally deficient child is sent to the feebled minded school at Medicine Lake. Here are two sentences which child ren, under- the test are expected to ra peat after hearing tftem once: "Saw in the street a pretty little dog. He had curly brown hair, slhort legs and a long tail." A 12 year old normal child is sup posed to repeat these sentences ex actly. When Mayor Till jvas asked to repeat the sentence he declined to attempt it. "I'll bet $100 not ten ner cent of the peole in this city can do it cor rect. 1 don t believe one per cent could." All the other officials tried to re peat the sentences. Each one got the words twisted around in some way. Some took it good-naturedly. Others wore nettled when they were asked to submit to the test. . Expecting orfe school director who was out of. the city, every member of the Board of Education which adopted the system and keeps it goingfailed to repeat two simple sentences after after hearing them once. v If you are interested in purity first BAKING 1 POWDER is what you should always use. I T INJURIOUS TO THE KIDNEYS Take a tablespoonful of Salts if Back hurts or Bladder bothers Heat forms urio acid. We are a nation of meat eaters and our blood is filled with urio acid, says a well-known authority, who warns us to be constantly on guard against kidney trouble. The kidneys do their utmost to free the blood of this irritating acid, but become weak from the overwork; they get sluggish; the eliminative tissues clog uid thus the waste is retained in the blood to poison the entire system. When your kidneys ache and feel like lumps of lead, and you have stinging pains in the bock or the urine is cloudy, full of sediment, or the bladder is irri table, obliging you to seek relief during the night; when you have severe head aches, nervous and dizzy spells, Bleep! cea ness, acid stomach or rheumatism in bad weather, get from your pharmacist abont four ounces of J ad Salts; take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast each morning and in a few days your kidneys -will act fine. This famous Baits is made from the acid of crapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia, and has been used for generations to flush and stimulate clogged kidneys, to neutralize the acids in urine so it is no longer a source of irritation, thus ending urinary and bladder disorders. Jad Salts is inexpensive and cannot injure; makes a delightful etlerveaccnt lilhia-watcr drink, and nobody can make a mistake by taking a little occasionally to keep the kidneys clean and active. - ,.M A 1 1 .
