(Special) Miss Flossie Burnette was a visitor in Hil gard Tuesday. 1 Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Scott made a flying1 trip to La Grande Friday. They report sleighing fine. Miss Leila Cantrell has returned home after visiting for several weeks with friends and relatives in La Grande. ' Mrs. Frank Beauchamp has been on the sick list but is better. . Alva Burnette, the accommodating; stage driver on the Starkey route, had quite an exciting time yesterday on the down trip digging through snow drifts. Giles. Harndon vvis in town la3t week. There was a dance in Hilgard Sat urday night with a 'good sized crowd in attendance and a very happy and genial crowd it was. Music was fur nished by Mr. Wise and Mr. Kings land. There will be another dance in two weeks. Ed Saling was out yesterday with his team and sled keeping the roads open so the teacher and children could get to the school house. He has several tons stored. Mr. and Mrs. Hans Endrop ure oc cupying the Jack Riley cottage Bince they rented the hotel. Mr. Gerber, the new section fore man, has moved to Hilgard with his family. Mrs. Holverson's mother, Mrs. M. L. Graham was visiting with her for a few weeks but has returned home to Freewater, Oregon. Lloyd Hewitt was flown from Meacham to visit his mother and Byrl and Harry. Ho attened the dance while here. Miss Faye Milligan is teaching our school this winter and she knows how to get the best out of the youngsters. She has about 25 pupils enrolled and they are all sizes and ages but a very bright little bunch and their teacher seems proud of them. ' Two of the enterprising towns men , Mr. Lee Young and Johnny Thompson, are working at the Clydo Stultz logging camp with their teams. Your correspondent has resided in Hilgard for a number of years and cannot remember the snow being as deep as it is now, in 20 years. Is is three feet on the level. Mrs. Frank Sanfoi-d and Miss Marie and Master GeraM have returned home from La Grande where they vis ited at the Giles Harndon home. They report a very enjoyable time. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gorley have leased the Home hotel and are serv ing the public in up to date styles. Mr. Gorley also has a pool hall in the room where the bar was. Owen Scott has purchased the household furniture of Mr. Smith, the retiring section foreman. Mr. Wise and family arrived in Hilgard Sunday from Indiana. They expect to make Oregon their home. They are relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kingland. The newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Walker, have rented the Gorley home and are very cosy, keeping house just like old folks. Mrs. C. N. Lewis and Miss Milli gan went to La Grande Saturday on No. 6 to visit their mother, Mrs. Geo. Milligan,' Mrs. Milligan has been in poor health for some time. Walter Thompson has moved his family to Hilgard from their home stead to be near the school. He is cutting logs for Clyde Stultz. Uncle Dan, Sanford has sold most all of his stock and is taking. life easy this winter. He says he is too young to be tramping around in the snow feeding cattle.
