IStrange climatic freaks prevail in
Eastern Oregon. Yesterday morning
when the mercury was near record
minimum here, it was real pleasant
at t.hn intake at the Beaver Creek
dam, many hundred feet higher than
La Grande. Ordinarily it is very com
there, and snow even now is four
feet deep on the level. Yesterday
morning it was 10 above early in the
day and remained around 18 and 20
all dav. This morning at 9 o'clock it
was 22 above zero at the intake. Dur
ing the time that it was so extreme-
yl cold elsewhere in Eastern Oregon,

while en route to the fire at the Pow
er station, Sam Andrews was driving
in the same direction with his Ford.
The truck bumped the Ford, tossing
it aside with some little damage to it,
and a badly twisted fender on the
truck. No one was injured. :
