who used to pitch for the La Grande
team of the Western Tri-State league,
is serving out a S100 fine imposed up
on him at Hood River for assault and
battery. ; Because the Hood River
bastile is cold in winter, he has been
transferred to The Dalles. Osborne is
an old time pitcher and, when here
one, got into trouble by reason of
his reputiation as a card shark. He
is not tihe same man as Wheeler Oa
born, Sitar Pendleton twirler.

The caucus was held behind closed
doors earlier in the evening but re
ports of the- discussion there have
leaked oi.t. .. It is said that on the
first iballot on the city attorneyship,
five votes were cast for J. Roy Kaley,
city attorney under Murphy, and
three for Alger Fee. It is said that
Mayor Best announced that he abso
lutely would not stand for Raley for
the reason that that attorney . had
been actively opposed to him during
the mayoralty campaign. Despite
this announcement the second ballot
stood the same and it was decided to
permit the present ,city attorney to
remain for the time being.
