Several from La Grande and near by territory have been subpoenaed as witnesses in the federal trial against the Oregon Lumber company of Baker, t . V. Bramweu, register ot the Land office here, and W. fi. Nibley are among the La Grande people at tending the trial with the beginning of the present week. The south a few days ago was working in shirtsleeves, the "nigger" babies were playing on the streets with bare feet, and the citiz-ens are eating fresh lettuce, radishes and young onions. So says Ralph Fowler, passenger brakeman on the branch line who has returned from a month's sojourn in Kansas points and New Orleans.
