Sacred Concert at Presbyterian Church Tomorrow Evening; La Grande is assemblinif and mobi lizing for a great Christmas. Vari ous churches of La Grande have out lined a splendid series of programs for the coraing week, and if La Grande isn't happy, it will be no fuu t of those who try to make all so. Regu lar church affairs are numerous and plentiful. Lodges and the Salvation army will make merry for themselves as well as thoso who need help. i Cantatas Numerous Two cantatas will be given, and probably more. Tho L. D. S. church will hold its "tree" and givo a canta ta Christmas Eve. Tho name of the cantata is "Down a Chimney with Santa Claus," with 12 singing parts. The church congregation will attend the tree program and witness tho Yuletide distribution at tho same ' time. Sunday . evening the Methodist church choir will render u cantntu, "The Light Eternal" by Bronner. Its rendition will require about one hom and will be handlod by a choir of some 80 voices. White Christmas Planned Tomorrow morning at 9:45 the children of the Presbyterian Sunday School will meet to make final ar rangements for the White Christmas to be held Friday evening. All child ren will bring something of a mater ial nature to be donated to the Sal- wtiojtt army Chrima dinner foH poor and Homeless. Catholic Musical Elaborate ' ' Musical students of Sacred Heart Academy will give a musical Decem ber 23rd in connection with Christ mas observation at that church. I ldchnrdson. Mrs. W. W. Berry, Organist. Army Tree Promising. As Christmas draws near interest is growing in ihe effort put forth by tne salvation Army to bring Christ mas cheer to tho needy. The kettles on the streets, suspended from the tripods with the familiar "Keep the Pot Boiling, arc attracting some at tention and are kept boiling fairly . well. Arrangements are made to dis tribute the boxes of provisions to tho homes on Friday, the day before Christmas. Then on Christmas day, at 12 o'clock, the tables will be spread for the feast. A special Invitation will be given to the men away irom home to Boend the day at the Army hall. . The Elks' hall has been donated to the Army for use on Christina nixht, when the tree and entertainment will be held at 8 o'clock. All donations of food should be de livered to the Army hall on Thurs day, if possible. Eagle Tree Saturday. The Eagle lodge will hold its Christy mas tree in their hall Saturday night. It is open to everybody and candy nnd nuts will le distributed. The main feature is that the public is in vited. Elks Tree Saturday. . ' The Elks will give their annual Christmas tree Christmas afternoon and to this the public is invited. The Elks are also urranging a careful survey for distribution to the needy. Suburban tree ihursday The union church nt Island City will give a cantata, "Santa Claus and Uncle Sam" Thursday evening. This will be followed by n old-fashioned tree and treat. The Christmas tree at the M. E. church will be held Friday evening. The program for that occasion in cludes the following: Song by School. ., Prayer by Pastor. The first will bo an early "Matin Service at 7 o clock on Amas morning. This is a service almost unversnlly held in the Scnndivnnian countries and in mr.ny parts of tho East. The church will be lit up with candles instoad of the ustuil lights. This early service is becoming popu lar in tho West. Tho next service will be a child rens Bervice and Xmns tree on Christ mas day evening nt 7:15. An excel lent program has been arranged for the choir nnd Sunday School. The Sunday school is practicing dAJigcntly and this program will no doubt bo tho best tho Lutheran church Sunday school has given. Tho main Christmas communion service will bo held on Sunday the 26th at 11 a. m. at this time Xmas anthems will be served and the Lord's Supper administered. School 9:45 a.m. Morning Service 11 a. m.
