A crowd that exceeded in numbers any previous memorial service At tendance in La Grande, was out yes terday afternoon to hear Elks of this vicinity revere the memories of their dead brothers. Judge A. S. Bennett of . The Dalles was . the principal speaker, and he spoke with his deep insight and finished manner on . the individual principles of the order. It was mi address with a real message to it one the men' and women who heard. will long remember. Tne Dalles attorney's speech reflected tho foresight of the committee which in vited him. The program , was carried , out largely as announced previously ex cept that the quartet did not sing, and Elsworth Ellis, was added 'with a vocal solo. , The musical numbers were excep tionally good and it is doubtful if a more solemn tribute has ever been paid to Elks dead. D. 1915, a general election will be held in the City of La Grande, in the County of Union and State or uregon, for the purpose of electing one com missioner for the term of three years, a'nd also submitting the following charter amendm nt to be voted on: "An act to amend the charter of the Citv of La Grande. Union County, Oretron." filed in the office of the City Recorder of said City on the 6th day of October, A. D. 1915, which was DroDosed bv initiative petition signed by the roquisite number of legal voters, and submitting the same to the electors of said City for their adoption or rejection, at the regular election to be held therein on uecem ber 18th A.
