Monday, the present situation is rather strong with values generally 'Well maintained. - Real good medium .weight cattle are still in best demand with heavy stuff showing less strength, although no weakness. At Chicago there was a steady tone, for cattle with values about a dime lower. - Situation in the hog trade was frac tionally easier with tops at $8.10 or a nickel below ; yesterday, although it is quite probable that full former prices would have been obtained for extra select quality- says Portland dispatches. Hog supplies . at North Portland have been rather short recently, re ceipts being good on only one day the first of the week. At Chicago there was a good tone in the hog trade. While the trade in Portland is an ticipating a gradual price decline for mutton, still the losses are expected to be smaller than in recent seasons.
