Henry Waelty, eldest , son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Waelty, of the Flat was the victim of an accident last Thursday while sptiting wood that re sulted in a badly lacerated hand, or nronerlv SDeakine. wrist. The young man was engaged in splitting wood holding the stick with his left hand and wielding the axe with his right. The wound bled with alarming rapidity and Dr. Whiting was called to render surgical assistance, and re ports the injured member doing well. Baltezore. - About month ago she came from her home in South Dakota-to Oregon in hopes of regaining her health, but was too far gone to receive much benefit from the change in climate. Deceased was 28 years old at the time of her death. The funeral ser vices were conducted Saturday by Rev. H. L. Willis in the Baptist rhurch and the remains were laid to rest in the City Cemetery. . ' The city council met in regular ses sion last evening in the council cham ber of the City Hall and wrestled with municipal problems until 11:00 o clock. .... i . ' .-- - Those present. were Mayor Weiss and Councilmen J. C. Hug, Weather spoon, Henderson and Dudley. Re corder Lrum and Marshal Thomas were also in attendance. ,' Place Ban on Dogs. . While the council was in session City Marshal Thomas was called to kill a dog supposed to be afflicted with rabies, and upon his return and report the council immediately or dered the officer to see that all dogs within the corporate limits be either muzzled or confined. The order goes into effect immediately and will be strictly enforced. While the city has no jurisdiction m the matter as re gams the country, no. dogs from the country will be allowed to run at large in the city unless they are muzzled, and those living in the coun try are requested to take notice of this tact. Hindman Elected Councilman. J. L. Hindmnn was elected council p.an to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of G. L. Garrett. When that order of business was called, J, W. Bickford and Hindman were nomi nated, but before a ballot was taken the name of Bickford was withdrawn by Councilman Dudley, who made the nomination, and the election of Hind man was made unanimous. Other Proceedings. The street committee was instruct ed to order 2000 feet of cross walk lumber to make needed repairs. The matter of installing a number of con crete cross walks was also discussed and will be considered later. The street committee was also in structed to provide the Marshal with notices to owners of defective walks to make necessary repairs at once. , The usual grist of bills was gone cer and the various claims allowed.
