H. Sloan has just completed the cement walla of the basement to a nine-room dwelling which he is erect ing on his lots adjoining his under taking pnrlors. ' The main structure will be 28 feet by 34 feet, two stories above a 7 Vj foot basement, which is 12x18 and will be used for a kitchen. There will be six rooms on the second floor and two on the third besodes an enclosed sleeping porch. The entire structure will be of Douglass fir, the walls three-ply with the heaviest lire proof building paper between each ply. Tak ing it as a whole it will be one' of the best dwelling houses in the city. K. M. Ghormley, Andy Geyer, Wal ter Jones and W.'A. Rinrdan. There were twelve witnesses for the plaintiff and nine for the defend ant. After a somewhat ; strenuous battle the case was given to the jury, who after thirty minutes deliberation rendered a verdict in favor of the plaintiff and ordered the property in dispute; five head of sheep, to be turned over to the plaintiffs. The defense gave a verbal notice of an appeal to the circuit court. The costs of the suit, outside of attor ney fees and the costs of a prior act ion, were $55.25. In the case at law of Hewitt Hros. vs. A. O. Spain, the jury found a ver dict for the plaintiff. The case Was called at ten oe'lock Wednesday morning, before Justice May, the plaintiff being represented by Mr. Drahan, of La Grande, and A. K. Lambert of this city. The de fendant was represented by II. L. Hess of this city. It took until after noon at one o'clock to empanel the jury, which was composed of the fol lowing: . II. Sloan. Grant Daltnn. The Tinney Dairy is preparing to erect a 12x14 cement milk house. The walls will be eight feet, high .ami a foot thick with cement floor which will make it one of the best in the vicinity. This dairy is doing good business and their product is the vevv best, ' (Union Republican) Mrs. II.
