Despite a very disagreeable night, the audience was big, and what is more, came away perfectly satis, fied. It was a good show, well put on, well received , and what more could be expected? The working out of de tails in connection with the consoli dation of the Portland Commercial Club and the Chamber of Commerce is progressing rapidly and smoothly and within a very short time all the varied, and frequently duplicated, activities of these two important bodies will be welded into one har monious and effectve unit. Under the direction of tho new organiiation the work of development of the state and its resources will receive more consideration than ever before. Ground has been broken for . the construction of the great inter-state bridge which is to connect the city of Portland with Vancouver, Wash ington, and which will be an import ant link in the Pacific Highway, one of the most remarkable thorough fares in the United States. As far as possible all contracts for the work have been let to local firms and pre ference will be given to locally, pro duced materials and to local labor. Necessary funds are avaiable for driving the work to early comple tion. i-. :j-" At Champoeg, on May 1. will ' be celebrated the seventy-second anni versary of the organization of ., the nrst American civil government west of the Rockey Mountains.This will be the fifteenth celebration of the event. the first having been held in 1901. Un June 17, at Portland, will be held the Forty-third annual reunion of Oregon Pioneers, those who came to, or were born in, asy part of the. ori ginal Oregon Country previous to ! lHy. The county court of Crook Countv has made a liberal appropriation of tunas to be used on the Lincoln II eh- way between Bend and La Pine, via Lava Butte.lt is intended to make this one of the best roads in the whole state. A campaign has been launched at Eugene to raise $150,000 for the es tablishment of a lace factory at that point. It is said the Pacific Coast pays out $500,000 to $700,000 annu ally for lace and it is believed that a local factory could secure the buv of that business". Notice Thto Ad.
