Cranston & Com pany, automobile dealers, yesterday filed suit against James York to re cover the sum of $105. The complaint alleges that the plaintiff company per formed work for the defendant on his automobile, repairing the machine and furnishing parts for same. ' The account is long past due, according to the complaint, and the defendant has refused to make settlement, al though asked to do so. , , Chinese In Scrap. v Baker, June 30. Two Chinese got into an argument last evening .on Main street, which first, resulted in the spilling of a lot of blood and later in the aggressor landing in the city "coop," with his fate to be decided by the Honorable Judge Cunning this, morning. Officer Nelson came upon the scene just as one "Chink" was making his getaway with a trail of gore behind him. He rushed up to the officer andl demanded the arrest of his assailant. La Grande Man In Trouble. Baker, June 30. Frank George, a Greek 22 or 23 years of age, . was arrested last evening by Officer Nel son. Complaint was made by a num ber of young girll that he followed them about the streets and tried to force his attentions on them. He claims La Grande as his home, but has been in Baker for a couple of weeks or more. Report One Fatality. Salem, Or., June 30. Sixty-nine ac cidents, one of them fatal, were re ported to the state labor commission er by the various industrial institu tions of the state during last week. The fatality occurred at Silver Creek Falls, where K. Liend, a logger, was killed. A third of the accidents oc curred in ' connection with railroad work. Reception at Normal, . Monmouth, Or., June 30. The fac- ulty of the Oregon Normal school " gave a reception to the. 420 students, attending the summer session, infthe ' gymnasium Saturday night. The gathering represented every section of Oregon and four other states. The gymnasium was elaborately decorated, for the occasion. . , Long Sentence Given. Dallas, Or., June 80. Sheriff John Grant of this city, has received in formation that L- G. Martin, the man he arrested at Salem a few weeks ago for endeavoring to pass a forged draft on the Dalles City bank for $15, 000, and whom ho later turned over to the authorities of Ramsey county Minnesota, where ho was wanted on a similar charge, has received a sen tence at St. Paul of from five to 10 Notice.
