General Manager's report for week
ending June 6th follows:
To the Commission, Gentlemen:
I beg to report that the recorder col
lected 125.00 fines, $ 1.00, pound fee,
75 cents for repairing walk. He
drew warrants for , $2,382.43 ' for
salaries and labor certificates, $419.
17 on Improvement District interest
fund as interest on improvement
bonds, $149..l5 on library fund. Re
ceiving $1.50 for three building per
mits, J6.00 dog tax. Paid out 85
cents manuscdipt backs and 60 cents
for paste. Issued moving picture
license an treasurer's receipt, $25.00,
3 tax licenses, $11.65, one dray '
license $10.00.
The treasurer collected ' $1,465.24
street assessments and interests,
$46.65 for licenses, $837.40 for
water rents. Received $2,072.76 tax
turn-over from county treasurer.
Redeemed $11,550,00, improvement
bonds and paid $615.00 interest on
improvement bonds, also paid $2,
488.41 for warrants and Interest
thereon.
The engineer set grades and lines
for cement walk for two lots on W
Ave. and board walk on Depot, be
tween T and Jackson ave., surveyed
and made estimate on) Second and
Fourth Streets for cement walks.
Also completed map of city.
The water superintendent spent
$20.86 for taps, $8.66 repairs and
cleaning, $19.50 on East Penn., ave.,
and $7.62 on Beaver Creek road.
The street , superintendent spent
$5.75 for gravel and $4.40 repairing
a plow, $68.75 for ropairs and con
struction work taking scrapings
off E. Adams and Greenwood, ; One
new cross walk . and laid cement
blocks on M ave. cross walk. Fixed
the , water flow . across Grandy"s
property and cleaned up the tools
and tool house, spent $72.25 on reg
ular cleaning and flushing.
The chief of police arrested 4, one
is serving time and 3 are in jail.
Fines $25.00, Pound fees $1.00. Two
arc lights were reported out the 6th.
The chief reports laxness on the part
of saloon keepers in' cleaning up
their places and loafing therein Sun
days. This is given rise to criti
cism. The chief also reports a good
deal of roller skating on down town
walks. The police force Is prepared
to enforce the nog muzzling ordin
ance which requires muzzling after
June 15.
The grass and weed cutting ordin
ance requires these cut during July.
It is even now apparent that this
must be enforced. The street super
intendent has cut the growth around
quite a few hydrants. Several
owners were ordered to connect
sewers and clean up, if they don'
we will ask that the commission
authorize action. Respectfully sub

Notice of Annual School . Meeting.
Notice is hereby given to the Le
gal voters of School District No. One
of Union County, State of Oregon,
that the Annual School Meeting of
said District will be held at the Old
High School building in said dis
trict to begin at the hour of tw
o'clock P. M., on the third Monday
of June, being the 15th. day of June,
A D. 1914.
This meeting is called for the pur
pose of electing one Director and the
transaction of the business usual at
such meetings.
There will also be submitted to the
Legal voters at said election the
following question:
Shall the District School Board of
School District No. One, of Union
County, Oregon, sell the White School
house, located on Block 86 of Chap
lin's Addition to the town of La
Grande, Union County, Oregon?
Said election shall be held from 2
P. M. until 6 P. M., and it shall be
by ballot.

Notice to Contractors.
Sealed bids will be received by the
County Clerk of Union County, Ore
gon, at the Court House at La
Grande, Oregon for the construction
of a steel bridge over Catherine
Creek, near Hot Lake, in Union
County Oregon, according to plans
and specifications on file in the of
fice of the County Clerk.
Bids will be received for the work
complete according to the plans and
specifications, including steel work,
fonudation, forms, excavation and
erection. '
Bids must be filed on or before 10
o'clock a. m. June 22nd, 1914.
No proposal will be considered un
less accompanied by a certified
check on some reputable bank in the
State of Oregon, for an amount
equal to five per cent of the aggre
gate amount of the bid and payable
to the order of the County Treasurer
of Union County, Oregon.
The right is reserved to rcje t any
or all bids.

Ordinance No. 724 .requires all doga
running upon the streets and alles
of the city of La G.-unde, Ore., to be
muzzled. Owing to several cases of
rabbics this will bo strictly enforced.
Farmers and ownerh generally will
keep their dogs at home, have them
in leash or muzzle them. All dogs
found running at large on the streets
or alleys of La Grande on or after
June 15 will bo killed forthwith in
accordance with said ordinance.
