at various American colleges, and aft
er he had gone back to bis own place

Marcus Roesch is back in La Grando
with his parents after a successful
year at Columbia University, whero
he has been laying in stores of knowl
edge for future life. Marcus thinks
there is no place like Columbia.
James Becker of Munster, Texas,
arrived in the city this morning on
his way to Joseph where he will pur
chase a piece of land and make his
home in the future.

granddaughter Ruth Pidcock left this
morning for Meacham where they will
visit with Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Pidi

' Jno. Vanderpool, the veteran stage
driver of Imbler and Summerville, left
for that place this morning. His
many friends will regret to learn that
he intends to move to Flora in the
course of the summer.
Mrs. Michellod and daughter Grace
left this morning for . Portland,
where they will witness the last of
the rose carnival. 'They came over
to Joseph from Walla Walla to spend
the summer on their ranch.
Giles and J. B. Plass, of Wallowa,
are in the city today looking after
their property interests here. These
gentlemen are timber owners and mill
operators in the Bear Creek coun
try of Wallowa county. ;
Mrs. M. A. Riggs, who left for
Salt Lake, Cashville and other cities
in Utah last spring to visit home
folks and relatives, returned home to
Eigin this morning.
Geo. Wolfe of Wallowa left for that
place this morming after transacting
business in La Grande. Mr. Wolfe
states that crops are looking very
promising in his country, and that
people are prospering.
