low, the Y. M. C. A. Juniors have
prepared a rare musical treat for
lovers of music for tonight at the
Methodist church. The personel in
cludes some of the best talent and
the numbers selected by these pro
fessionals are of ihe best character.
It is not often that so many able
singers and instrumentalists can be
gathered together for the same per
formance, and for this reason this
year's program is bound to set a
standard for the coming yearly,
renditions, which will be hard to

HINTS FOR THE
BUSY HOUSEWIFE
Dish Drying Rack That Obvi
ates Use of Towels. .
A new 'device for drying dishes con
sists simply of a pan twenty Inches
square, litlod with a removable wire
rack to hold the dishes on edge while
draining and to keep thi'in out of the
dripping rinse wuler. After the dishes
ure washed they are set on edge In the
rack, scalding water Is poured over
thoiri and they are allowed to dry, the
idea being to eliminate the use of tho
towel for drying. I!y this method the
dishes are both cleaned und sterilized.
Boiled Pork Balls.
Select a piece of "fnt and lean,"
plunge It into a kettle of boiling wa
ter and keep it boiling under cover
until tender enough to let n fork pierce
it with ease. Iteuiore the Bkin and
cliop the meat flue with twice Its bulk
of dry bread. Add half this bulk of
(unshed potatoes aud "bind" all with a
well beaten egg. Shape into disks,
dredging the tops with dour, and fry.
When n light brown flour the other
side n nd fry. Serve on a hot platter
with potato salad, milk gravy, toast
aud boiled onions.
Asparagus With Eggs.
Boll eggs very hard and let them get
cold. Then shell and halve them and
drop them into lukewarm milk which
you have slightly thickened and sim
mer them until creamy. In the mean
time boll largo white stalks of aspara
gus and when done arrange them on
a deep platter, letting the tips meet In
the center and the ends reach the
edge. Now drop a large lump of but
ter in the eggs, add salt and pepper
and a little chopped parsley and pour
over the asparagus. Garnish with bits
of parsley.
, Currant Tapioca Pudding.
Wash a cupful of tnploca thoroughly
and soak overnight in enough water
to cover. Place iu a double boiler three
cupfuls of boiling water, one cupful
of sucrar and a nluch of salt and boil

lect the finest, ripe red currants and
when the tnploca is cool stir a plut of
thorn into It, being careful not to break
the currants. Have a pint of the cur
rants in a dish and pour the fruited
tnploca over them. Heap sweetened
whipped cream on top. , .
Huckleberry Pudding.
Make a batter with one cupful of
milk, two well beaten eggs, a table
spoonful of butter, melted; season with
salt and one-half cupful of sugar. Sift
with two cupfuls of flour and three
tenspoonf uls of baking powder and stir
luto the milk. Add one cupful of
huckleberries that have been well
dredged with flour. Pour Into a bake
pan or dish and bake until cooked
through nnd nicely browned on top.
Serve with a snuco or cream and sugar.
Strawberry Jelly.
Dissolve one-half box of gelatin in
one pint of water, slrnin through a
muslin bag mul add enough more wa
ter to make it a quWt, press one pint
of strawberries through n bag and add
the Juice to the mixture. Add two
heaping tenspoonfuls of sugar, accord
ing to the acidity of the juice, nnd
plnce in mold where half strawberries
have been cut and laid on the bottom
and sides. It can be decorated with
real strawberry leaves.
Escaloped Gooseberries.
Fill a deep bake dish with alternate
layers of cracker crumbs and stewed
gooseberries, covering each layer of
fruit with sugar nnd bits of butter If
the gooseberries have not been sea
soned and hove a layer of cracker
crumbs on top. Pour a little water
over the top, not more than a half cup
ful. Cover and bake twenty minutes.
Nice eaten cold or hot and with or
without cream.
Buttermilk Bisouit.
Two nnd one-half cupfujs of flour
measured before sifting, two table
spoonfuls of baking powder in flour,
one tablesnoonful of lard or butter, one-
J fourth teaspoonful of salt, one cup of
- buttermilk In which soda the slice of a
large bean bus been dissolved; mix
soft and use as little flour as possible
to roll out and bake in a quick oven.
This makes twelve biscuits.
Chicken Broth For an Invalid.
Joint nn old fowl, cover with cold
water, bring slowly to a boll and let
simmer very gently for five or six
hours. Let the broth get cold and re
niovo every particle of fnt: then re
heat and salt to taste, adding some
carefully bulled rice If It is liked.
Removing Old Wall Paper.

nnd doors closed the steam will soften
the paper to such un extent thnt it is
easily removed.

Ordinance No. 724 requires all dogs
running upon the streets and alleys
of the city of La Grande,' Ore., to be
muzzled. Owing to several cases of
rabbies this will be strictly enforced.'
Farmers and owners generally will
keep their dogs at home, have them
in leash or muzzle them. All dogs
found running at large on the streets
or alleys of La Grande on or after
June 15 will be killed forthwith in
accordance with said ordinance.
