Ordinance No. 724 requires all dors
running upon the streets and alleys
! of the city of La Grande, Ore., to .be
muzzled. Owing to several cases of
rabbies this will be strictly enforced.
Farmers and owners generally will

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Howard of Lit
tle Rock, Arkansas, passed through
the city this morning on their way to
Enterprise, where they expect to
make their home in the future. Mrs
Howard had never before seen snow
in June and was agreeably surprised
with the aspect of the Blue Moun
tains. .

Murphy, who died recently of heart
disease in Baker. He states that af
ter an impressive service in the, Bak
er cathedral, Father. Brady of Vale
accompanied the body back to Paw
tucket R. I., Father Murphy's home
city, where interment will take place

CONVICT DIES OF JOY.
Leavenworth, Kan., June 5.
"Davy" Truax, 82 years old, died
of joy at his parole, his friends said
at thestate prison here Wednes
cUiyf'Davy" had been in prison 25
years, of a life sentence for killing
an inmate of the Soldiers' home at
Dodge. City, la.
Truax believed he would be re
leased some day, and had saved $150
that he might not go to a pauper's
grave..
Tuesday the old man's faith
was confirmed when he was notified
that he had been paroled.
He sat in the prison office Wed
nesday waiting for the car which
wouhl take him away.- When the
car drew up friends turned to tell
the veteran he must leave them. He
sat motionless. The doctor said
"Davy" had died of heart disease.

life made up the interesting gather
ing that went to the stock show to
repay a corteous call, and be enter
tained by witnessing a display of
horseflesh that no county in the
slate can emulate.
The band full strength, uniformed
and disciplined lent color and 1m-
pre3siveness to the crowd and . will
help to ' inform the neighbor Union
of La (Grande's presence. They aro
going to make up what the valley
needs, an esprit de corps, as it were
and form what the name Union im
plies, a united body of boosters.
