Valuable cash prizes have been hung ' up by the La Grande Commer cial club for te best results from the King drag. To show what can be done, the club is, at its own expense, maintaining a piece of road just East of La Grande, and knowing that re sults can be obtained, the director? have offered valuable prizes for the one that does the best work. Further more, a large number of farmers are deeply interested and have promised tn compete. The rules and the prizes, follow: . ' A prize of $50 in gold for the best mile of King drag road within eigh: miles of La Grande. A prize of $25 in gold for the sec ond best mile of King drag road with in eight miles of La Grande. A prize of $15 in gold for the beat one half mile of King drag road on each rural route out of La Grande. A prize of 10 in gold for the sec ond best one half mile of King drag road on each rural route out of l a Grande. No one piece of road to receive two prizes. The commercial club of La Grande has undertaken to maintain a half mile of road leading east from the end of the macadam on what is known as the Gekler lane. This has always been considered a bad piece of road in muddy weather and it is the intention of the club to use this drag after each rain. D. M. Clark the secretary had it dragged about two weeks ago and it shows a wond erful improvement. Several farmers coming over the day after it was worked on could not help but notice the difference in the condition. This half mile was worked in about three hours' time with one team and man and shows what can be done if the people in the county will only follow the advice given by Mr. King in his lectures in the county recently. Notice is hereby given that on the 5th oay ,f May 1914, I ban. taken up the rollowlng described live stock, towit: 1 buckskin mare, brand ed "B" on left shoulder, also, "J" on left thigh, age about eight years, weight about 1000 pounds; 1 yearling colt with said mare, bay color with white spot in face, no visible brand, has fresh wire cuts on front leg. That said animals are now held in the City Pound of La Grande, Ore gon, according to ordinance No. 4 of Series of 1894. The owner of said animals may reclaim the same by paying the sum of $1.00 each, and the expenses of their keeping within ten days from date of thi3 notice.
