When North Powder left the field the score was five all, and an inning left to play. North Powder had been leading 5 to 2. In the eighth, with one man down, La Grande got two on, and then came Craney's lrive for a circuit. Woods of La Grande called the long drive safe and North Powder contended it was a foul. Neither team would give in and North Powder quit and neither umpire declared the game forfeited. Captain Mclnnis of the visiting team offered -to mediate by playing the game over but as this was not listen ed to it is now up to President Lin coln to settle the whole proposition. North Powder had scored on errors principally, only three bingles being registered off Mclnnis. , Pierson let La Grande down with five hits for the eight innings. Union Takes Opener. Cove. May 18. (Special) -Three hundred people saw a loose game of baseball here yesterday when the Giande Ronde league season opened. Union took the game 10-7. (Special) In a game replete with sensation and marked by Sherwood Williams' ter rific hitting, Elgin took a 6-4 game from Imbler here yesterday. Notice is hereby given that on the nth aay of May 1914, I have taken up the following described live stock, towit: 1 buckskin mare, brand ed "B" on left shoulder, also, "J" on left thigh, age about eight years, weight about 1000 pounds; 1 yearling colt with said mare, bay color with white spot in face, no visible brand, has fresh wire cuts on front leg. That said animals are now held in the City Pound of La Grande, Ore gon, according to ordinance No. 4 of Scries of 1894. The owner of said animals may reclnim the same by paying the sum of $1.00 each, and the expenses of their keeping within ten days from date of thi3 notice.
