Linebaugh, post office in spector, left yesterday for points in southern Oregon, where he will re main until the middle of next month. On his return trip he will make an inspection of the sidewalk improve ment suggested by him, relating to the demand for an additional mail carrier 'for parts of the mill district, that have no mail service by carrier. In speaking of the matter this morning the postmaster, E. E. Bragg, informed a reporter, that the whole natter now hinged on uie willing!eis of tne residents of the district to make the improvement suggested ':y the post office inspector. . '- The improvements that were out lined by him, including the builoin of La Grande, Oregon, for each of I such dances or balls, the sum of $5.00. Section 4. Any rag dance or dances which in their nature have an immoral -or lewd tendency, or are offensive to common decency, are prohibited, andl all personB promoting or allowing, or engaging in such .' dance or dances shall be deemed guilty of violating this ordinance. -, Section 6. No' intoxicating liquors or beverages shall be sold, given away used or drunk in a room, or carriad into a room, where dancing is-being held or conducted. . , Section 6. No person conducting, managing, promoting or ' receiving pay for admission to any dance or ball shall issue any pass to, or allow any person who leaves the hall, re admission without his or her paying the regular admission fee. ; Section 7. Any person1 violating any .of the f oregoing'prdvisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction there of, in the municipal cdurt, be pun ished by a fine ; of not less than $10.00 nor more than $ 100.00, and in default of payment of such fine, shall be imprisoned in the city jail one day for every $ 2.00 of such fine un paid.. BLACK & CO. 5-14-3t Ordinance No. 770, Series 1914 AN ORDINANCE to regulate and license the conducting of public dance halls, ball rooms and dancing acade mies, and to prohibit and restrain any immoral or indecent dances, and de fine what constitutes the same, and provide a penalty for the violation of the provisions hereto. THE CITY OF LA GRANDE, OREGON, DOES ORDAIN AS FOL LOWS: Section 1. Before any person or persons shall conduct, carry on, or engage in conducting, keeping or maintaining any public dance ,hall; dancing academy, or place where dancing is regularly carried on, or indulged in for hire or profit, he or they shnll first obtain a license from the City Recorder of this city and pay to the Treasurer of said city the sum of $100.00, annually, payable semi annually. Section 2. Any room or place where dancing is regularly carried on or conducted or which is leased, let or rented for hire, or on admission fee is charged for attending any dance therein, either as a participant spectator, shall for the provision of this Ordinance be deemed a public .dance hall; and any room or place where dancing lessons or instructions . la dancing shall be given for hire or any money or stipend received there for, shall be deemed a dancing aca demy.
