Below is an excerpt from the New- lurg Oregon Daily describing the events of the golden wedding of two persons well known to . La Grande people. Mr. Ezra Hayes was for jsooie years the Presbyterian minister in this city and was well liked. Former parishiners will read with pleasure the delightful happenings on the day of his golden Wedding an niversary as 1 recorded in his home paper. Says this paper: ' . That be believed in "bestowing bouquets on the living," which, I believe, voiced the sentiments of all present. : J. B. Hunt then gave a piano solo, medley, 'which , was heartily Jeceived. The program closed by all singing lowers and a spray aquifolia at each plate. At high noon Mr. J. B. Hunt played i the sweet strains-, of "The Bridal Chorus," from Lohengrin, and the bride and party marched into ' the hall. . ;' '., . '. ' :- The bride, accompanied by Mrs. Elizabeth Clemmens preceded by Mrs. E. E. Colton and followed by 'Mrs. Anna Marshall as color guards from the W. R. C, entered the hall from the right. ; The groom, attended by Wm. Clem mens and guarded by the flag bearers, Mrs. Frances Woodruff and . Mrs. j G. E. Bennett, came through the door at the left. The bridal party met under the arch, the color guards being stationed two on either Bide. ' ' ' The picture iwas complete when ! Rev. J. M. Then in an impressive way they renewed the vows made 50 years ago and were repronounced man and wife by the minister, who had "made two hearts beat as one" so long ago. Hearty congratulations followed, and one almost forgot that the hair of this worthy couple was growing gray when we noted the sparkle in the eyes of the groom and the modest ,'blush of the bride, especially when N. E. Britt offered his congratulations. Mr. Hunt then played a march and the assemblage repaired to the din ing room, where 120 friends partook 1 of a feast "fit for the gods." Upon their return to the main hall, After spending a little time in so cial chat, the bride and groom went home, where a four-generation pic ture was taken and a reception ten dered them by their M.
