Eggan has purchased a lot of Edna Williams just south of the mil linery store. Mr. Eggan is erecting a photo gallery in which he expects to start his photography business soon. Mr. Eggan owns the ranch previously owned by Mr. Stockwell and he expects to be a permanent resident of this vicinity. Friday being the last day of school in the Dry Creek district the event was celebrated by a basket social Sat urday evening. Several people of this city attended and a splendid ev ening was spent. Charles Zurcher, candidate for county clerk, was in the city looking after business interests the fore part of the week. Rev. L B. Self, formerly of Lostine, is now preaching in the Presbyterian church. The position was formerly held by Rev. Shimian who was sent Enterprise Sunday to attend to busi ness matters. He also remained for the game between Enterprise and Wallowa. Geo. Rodgers and Rev. Self re turned Friday from Sumpter, where they were attending a meetmg of the Presbyter. A. G. Wigglesworth, formerly of this city, has returned and is expect ing to make a stay of a month or more. Rev. Powell of Cove spent a day or two in Wallowa recently. C. J. Smith, candidate for Governor on the Democratic ticket was in the city Monday night and made an ad dress in the Odd Fellow's hall. D. R. McKenzie made a trip to Summerville Wednesday , returning Thursday. While in Summerville he purchased a span of mules. Mrs. Hector McDonald underwent an operation for appendicitis last Thursday. She is rapidly recovering. The Sophomore class of the high school will stage their play "Uncle Rube" on May 6th in the gymnasium. This will be the opening night for the dramatic side of the Gym. W. P. Newby, county commissioner, was down the fore part of last week to superintend the grading of the Stanley lane. He returned Friday. Howard Shutt, of Lostine, was a visitor in this city the latter part of the week. Olive Golf, of Minam, who is at tending school here was forced to go - Made a Bad Break.
