Even the old Civil War veterans recalled the days of Vicksburg or of Bull Run, of J : Gettysbury and Chicanuiugua, and I became excited at the news of the present conflict. There is talk of mnny going to Portland for the purpose of enlisting. Some have left for places which take them to the scene of trouble and their object seems to be enlistment. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bock and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ravcnscroft of this city and some othres who have lived in Vera Cruz and in the vicinity or who have interests in strife ridden Mexico are especially ' interested in the doings thnt are now transpiring at Vera Cruz and Tnmpico. Many men in Union and Wallowa county left that country, before things be came unbearable and are now wait ing for the time when peace and quiet will permit them to go in and look after their interests. Among them are E. Z. Carbins and family who left their Sonora ranches some time ago. All we ask of those to whom we grant tracts is that they plant, or arrange to have planted, a crop of one of the above-mentioned pro ducts within three years, after which we will .have it operated( harvested and replanted) for grantees, in consideration of 25 per cent, of the net profits de rived from the sale of the crops, thereby allowing the grantee to pursue his or her present occupation until such time as they determine just what the yield of their acres amounts to. Consider what this may mean as a source of income, when statistics show-that the yield of one acre of celery amounted to $1,208.45, and that one acre of well-cared-for paper shell pecans, in full bearing, should net its owner as high as $500.00 per year. We are of the opinion that after it is proven by actual results ob tained in operating the land that they will need no further urging, and waste no time in locating in this land of plenty. We also require grantees to occupy the land within ten years, or sell it to some one who will occupy it; otherwise it reverts back to the grantor. The land included 'in this opening is located di rectly on and adjoining the Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Railroad, about twenty-five miles west of Brunswick, a thriving city of fifteen, thousand, having direct steamship service to New York and Boston, and excellent railroad transportation facil ities to all points. It will consist of six thousand acres, and will be included in this opening. All who register and receive trcts will get the benefit of the ex periments and scientific methods in vogue thereon While we are arranging to prevent . over-registration, we will avoid many disappointments, such as occurred in other land openings conducted by the United States Government and railroads, by grant ing those -who registered in exoess of the number of tracts to be granted, an interest in this com mercial farm and orchard enterprise, in the nope that they may later locate in one of our town sites. ' Examination of the land will cheerfully ,be per mitted, and the opening will be held at Brown . town, Wayne County, Georgia, one of the stations of the A. B. & A. Railroad, which is located on this property, and will occur as soon after the closing of registrations as arrangements can be made. The presense of those registered will not ba, necessary at Browntown on the opening day, unless they wish to attend, for there ' is no favoritism shown anyone. U wall be conducted by a commit tee selected for the purpose, and those registered will be notified of what they have been granted, as soon as possible. . With the ever-increasing populatien of this country there is no corresponding increase In the area of land, and naturally as the population in creases and seeks the land in pursuit of health, happiness and independence, it will continue to be harder 'to secure. The prosperous and contented class in Europe to-day are the descendants of those who secured land there when it was plentiful, while the descend ants of those whd obtained no land are now the peasants and slaves. You must realize that this may be your last chance to secure land in this country without a large outlay of capital, so it should not be necessary to urge you to act at once by forwarding us the application for registration attached to this announcement.
