Two road drags have been con structed in Tom Flemming's black smith shop to be used when D. Ward King the wizard road builder for little money, comes to La Grande for the purpose of showing the citizens of the county that the subject of good roads is not so bad or as hopelessly involved in finances as many suppose it to be. If this instrument does what its in ventor says It will do, and others in many states have testified that it does more than he claims for it, then the problem may be looked upon as partly solved. All that is required. then is a split log made after the man ner of the Ward King road drag, two good horses, persistence, good will, and the average road, impassible dur ing many parts of the year, will be come like a paved boulevard. This drag is constructed in the fol lowing manner: A log about nine or twelve inches in diameter is sawed in half from end to end. These are then braced together so that the flat side of one log is in front and the flat side of the other half log is in the back. They are about two feet apart.
