The Arbor Day celebration, at the
"Iowa" school house, Miss Eff ie Snid
er, teacher, was greatly enjoyed by
all gathered there. ' '
. Young and old met in the school
house at the noon hour when a most
bountiful repast was sp real and en
joyed. Then came short, excellent ad
dresses, by Messrs. Campbell, Four
nier, Allen, Snook, Mitchell, Nunn and
Mrs. Hulse (all residents of District
No. S), interspersed with songs and
recitations.
This was followed by the planting
of mapla? locust and box elder trees
on the school grounds.
It is understood to 'be the intention
of the people of the district, to soon
place on the playground, means of ex
ercise and enjoyment for the children,

order, taste and usefulness second to

the packed egg theory is utter fallacy
it eeerna. Owners of incubatois test
the fertility of eggs for three days,
and those not fertile are thrown away
usually boiled and fed to young
chicks, but the belief exists that some
o' those are finding their -way to the
local market. The shell of course is
not changed by the incubator test,
and in fact the candle process fails to
disclose imperfections. Much grief, at
any rate has been caused here by the
eggs, regardless of what may be the
cause. -
That sale of incubator eggs is not
a local matter but one which has gen
eral use, even though an outrage, is
indicated by trade journals" said a
local merchant today. . "I have here
a clipping from the Grocer and Coun
try Merchant published at San Fran
cisco which goes on to say:
A number of poultry raisers, it
seems, are putting on the market in
fertile eggs that have been tested in
incubators from three days to a week.
As soon as the breeder finds that the
eggs will not hatch he takes them out
and sends them to market along with
his fresh spring eggs. After the eggs
have been in the incubator for this
period they are distinctly stale and rot j
very quickly if kept any length of
time. Even when just taken from the j
incuttator these infertile eggs are not
fit for boiling, although they may be
used for frying, and are good for
cake or certain other '-baked foods.
These eggs when they reach the mar
ket, however, are classified as low
grade No. 2.

Biggest Consignment Yet

Seattle, April 14. The biggest con
signment of Chinese eggs ever import
ed into this country, 270,000 dozen,
will be part of the cargo of the steam
ship Senator, which will sail from
here tonight for San Francisco. The
eggs were brought across the Pacific
from Hong Kong, aboard the C. P. R.
Liner Empress of Russia, and were
discharged at Vancouver. " They will
be taken aboard the Senator there.

come to us from the Philippines, Ja
pan, Siberia. Alaska, Canada or the
gulf of Mexico. Our weather bureau
gets cable, telegraphic or wireless no
tice of a foreign storm. Station after
station of the weather bureau- and ves
sel after vessel in the pntb of the
storm report Its arrival, so that the
general direction and the speed with
which It travels can be very nearly de
termined. Some storms can be fore
told as much as ten days In advance of
their arrival lit a given point
When a storm from Siberia drifts
eastward around the north pole and
reappears In Alaska the speed with
which it has covered that section of Its
course Is made the basis of the calcu
lation of the time when It should ap
pear In Washington and Oregon, when
It should pet to the great lakes and
Anally to the Atlantic const, and each
section Is warned ln.--udvnnce. . Unex
pected conditions may delay the storms
or divert them from the course. Tabs
are kept on the cold waves In much
the same manner. The weather reports
from Canada. Iceland. Europe. Russia
ind Siberia are studied and predictions
made as to wnen the cold waves from
these countries will reach the United
States.
