New potatoes are showing unex
pected strength in the wholesale mar
ket, although retail prices ' haven't
changed here. Portland dealers quote j
higher figures on today s shipments to
La Grande. Likewise tomatoes. Flori
da grown varieties are coming in good
quality tout the margin of profit is
growing smaller instead' of bigger.
With these two exceptions both whole
sale and retail prices on seasonable
stuff are about the same as before.
Strawberries are. a greater luxury
than ever, principally because none
can be had. Portland - dealers get
scarcely enough to supply their home
trade, let alone supplying La Grande
and other interior points. ,
