Sixty Dollars Per Ton Offered for f Wenatchee Goods, That Wenatchee will supply the Oregon Packing company and other firms with cherries for maraschinos is indicated from the following dis patch to the Spokesman Review from Wenatchee! : Manager Robinson of the Oregon Packing company of Portland and San Francisco is holding conferences with officials of the Wenatchee Pro duce company and the Wenatchee Val ley Fruit Grower' Association, rela tive to contracting for the unniarkt able cherries of the valley. He offers 3 cents a pound or $60 the ton and desires the greater part of the crop. Growers desiring to negotiate with tne packing company may do so through the produce company or the association before April 15. The Oregon packing company will convert the cherries into maraschinos. If the company comes here the cher ries will be barreled with a liquid preservation and shipped to Portland or San Francisco. , "I consider this a first-class propo sal for the fruit growers,'.' said Harry Crowl of the Wenatchee Produce company. "We never have made any money on Royal Anns and do not care to handle them if .there is .another way provided. Should the Oregon Packing company come in here they will arrange for a warehouse on Co lumbia street and may possibly ar range to handle some varieties of pears as well as cherries, and pos sibly some other kinds of fruit." Day Near. . La Grande has of late years be come attentive to the old Ertglish custom of using hot cross buns. Lo cal merchants are stocking up with the foodstuff this week for consump tion on Friday on Which day hot cross buns are ien with a great deal of attention in many of the larger cities. The custom originated in England where for many years nothing else was eaten in the bread line on Good Friday. ANSWER THE CALL.
