There are additions to the church at almost every service, 27 have already taken their stand, and others are almost persuaded. The subject of the ser mon tonight will be "Excuses." Trask of this city loft this morning for Elgin where she will transact business for a number of days. Professor Armstrong made his weekly trip to Imbler this morning where he is teaching music. W. B. Sargent went to Alicel this morning to inspect the farm of the La Grande Investment company. He will return tonight. Mr. and Mrs. Bergman of Jerome, Idaho, stopped off in the city last r.ight on their way to Enterprise where thev will be the guests of fripnds for an indefinite period. Mrs. Reibcr of Elgin and .Mr?. S E. Harris of the same city came to Lo Grande last night to be at the bed side of Mrs. Houston who died during tho nie:ht. Miss Elma Hunt of Joseph returned f from Portland last night where she has been studying music during the winter. Mrs. Clifford Stone of Touchet, Washington, passed through the city this morning on her way to Enter prise where she will visit with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. j Cummings for an indefinite period. 1 Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Williams of Joseph returned this mornirir to , their home city after spending some , time at the local hospital where their three-year-old child was operated on 1 following an attacK of pneumonia. ' Mr. and Mrs. W. 5. Chattin who for many years made their home in thejvicinity of Summerville, left this morning for Walla Walla, where where they will makr. their home in the future. They own property in that county and have treaded to spend their days of rest ir, a new country. W. G. Winchester and son left this morning for Enterprise. Mr. Win chester brought his son to the Grande Ronde hospital for an X-Ray exam ination to determine whether he had stones in the bladder or not. The photo showed no traces of such an obstruction. O. E. Hall of Los Molinos Cal'for nia, formerly of Joseph passed through the city thfe morning en route to his old home in Wallowa county where he intends to visit with friends for a number of weeks. Mr. Hall is now engaged in raising alfal fa in the Golden Gate state. W. E. Leffel deputy game warden for this district was called to Wal lowa yesterday on account of the sud den illness of his wife. He could not leave immediately owing to the de parture of the train. He left this morning. Mr. Leffel had intended to bring his family to the city this week but this will have to be postponed on account of this unforseen happen ing. P. Chovy of Palentino, in Umatilla county, left this morning after pay ing taxes at the county court house. Mr. Chovy is a Portugese by blrtn and came to this country when a mere boy. He first lived in Morrow county where he worked for wages. Later he removed to Umatilla county where he has been a resident for al most forty years. He is now owner 1 of nearly 20,000 acres of land, some , of which is in the Starkey country. ! Tiy thrift and close application to business he amassed a considerable fortune. Ho is married and has a ' large family all of whom are recciv- ing a good education. Mr. Chovy is a stockraiser principally. Mrt. John Egensperger left for Wallowa Lake Park this morning ef ter visiting with her husband who is an employe of the Observer force, and after attending the mission at the Catholic church. Mr. Egensperger who owns the park site, and conducts' it in the summer t'.me will leave for that place early in June.
