A. Baker at Summerville, father of Mr. Baker. The son is forest ranger in that section and has some interesting data on the life he is lead inir in the forests, far from human habitation. Furgason of Baker, passed through the city today on his way to, Elgin where he will transact busine. for the day. j Miss Lela Osbourn, of Lostine, re j turned to that place today after a : pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Schaefer of this city. Miss Edith Welch loft today to spend the week end with her parents at Rinehart. She will return Monday to resume her work in the high school. Mrs. J. A. Woodell, wife of "Doon" Woodell, left this morning for Aliccl where she will look after the fam ily interests on the farm. ; Mrs. Dryborough, of North Powder. left for that city this morning to spend the week end with relatives." She is one of the teachers in the Rivera school. , Clint Van Fleet, of the Golden Rule company, left for Palmer Junction this morning to solicit for that company at the place. Clint has built up a good business among the boys in the camp, he says. Mrs. C. E. Wood of Indianapolis,, Ind., passed through the city this morning on her way to Wallowa and other branch line points where she will be the guest of friends and relatives for an indefinite time. From there she will go on to Portland and other coast cities north of Portland. She has spent the winter in Los Angeles. C. C. Cate, the local farm inspector and instructor in farm management, left today for Imbler where he will attend a meeting of the farmers of that section which is to be held today. The subject of blight is on the table for discussion andi he intends to add his scientific knowledge to the delib erations of the meeting. Other scien tific fruit men are with him. Jno. E. Crymes of La Grande loft today to attend the Sunday school con vention at Elgin. Mr. Crymes is sup erintendent of teachers training and will take an active part in the pro ceedings of the convention. Mrs. Dr. Upton, Miss Elizabeth Bunnell, E. L. Martin, superintendent of the Ameri can Sunday School Union, with Idaho, Washington and Oregon as his terri tory, likewise left for that city to at tend the convention. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nibley are here from Baker today visiting old time friends and former neighbors. Rev. W. A. Winters, district super intendent of the M. E. church, went to Union and Cove this morning to attend a quarterly meeting. Mrs. Winters ac companied nim to Union.
