Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sommers of El gin, returned yesterday from Portland where they have spent the' winter. They returned home this morning. v Mrs. Maud Karney, of Tacoma, left today after a pleasant visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moon and other relatives; Mrs. Karney formerly lived in La Grande. ' ", Jos Corpe of Cove, left this evening for Miles City, Mont., where he will represent a Portland aluminum house. He is a student of Willamette univer sity and will take up his studies aga'.n this fall. Geo. Coyen, representing a Port land buiscuit factory, is in the city in the interest of the company. He left today for Wallowa and other branch line points. ; Frank Smith, of Elgin, left this morning after paying his son a visit in the Grande Ronde hospital. He is gradually recovering from the effects of an operation for appendicitis. Pat Lonergan, representing the Warren Construction company, is in the city in the interest of the com pany. He left today for Wallowa, where he is negotiating for the com pany. " ' i Jos. Barton, special representative of the Sumpter Valley railroad, is in the city transacting business at the land office. Mr. Barton was manager ot the sugar factory during the first two years of its existence in La Grande. ' C. Gossard and family left this morning for Everett, Washingtno, where Mr. Gossard will have charge of' the establishment of a new Hub store. Mr. Gossard has been in the city about a year in charge of the Hub store in this city. He has sold his household effects and will make Everett his home during the estab lishment of the new store. : ; ' v, H. C. Hilman left this morning for Kamela, where she will visit with her husband and other friends for a . few days. Mr. Hilman has been there for some two weeks in the employ of the company.
