Phipps will occupy Baptist and Presbyterian . pulpits Sunday. . , - . Rev. Charles A. Phipps of Portland, General Secretary of the Oregon Sunday School Asoctatlon, will ad dress .a mass meeting of all Sunday school workers of the city at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church. This will be the preliminary meeting for. the great Twin-state con vention to held in ,this city April 30th to May 2nd. This convention will be the largest its kind ever held in Eastern Oregon. It 'is expected that there will be some 400 delegates in at tendance. Rev. Phipps will speak to the Bap tist congregation at the evening ser vice Sunday. VESTED JUVENILE CHOIR Organ Choir at Methodist Church to Give Musical Program Sunday. The introduction, of a vested juve nile choir takes place at the Metho dist church when tomorrow night the organ choir gives its first monthly musical program. The numbers for the evening the enumerated in the church announcement. Mrs. J. P. Graham is directing the juveniles, and the music department is going to be exceptionally good. The church mem bers have been promised something exceptional as soon as the juvenile choir could be worked into shape, and this has been done. Details of the program are published in the church announcements. Baptists Have Orchestra. An orchestra is now furnishing music for the Sunday evening services at the Baptist church. This with the fifteen minutes of song is proving an attraction to many young people. The new song book, "Make Christ King' is also assisting in making the eve ning service ring with music. On the other hand if the child heard its parents speak of the teacher as in competent, as spiteful, as narrow minded, and willing to use the rod without any excuse, does any reason ing person think that child is going to be sweet tempered, tractable, and as willing to learn as in the other case? Never, for the child respects the words of its parents and gets its inspiration from it. The child is be tween two feelings, that of enforced obedience with disrespect in its heart and the created feeling in the breast of the teacher. This is part of tho psycology of the case but not all. The meeting will make clear many things that have heretofore remained dark and dismal to many parents. Men are going to talk ut this meet ing and women too, who have strug gled day in and out with the same problems here studied, and have been forced to ponder deeply aftor school 'hours how they would win a boy or ' girl for the child's sake. The tragedy of the whole situation has been .lack of understanding and sympathy be j tween the child and the parents and $his will bo estnblished.
