On this particular visit he got into the house unknown to the maid and true to his custom fell on his knees in ' fervent supplication. The maid had just filled a pail of water and was- carrying it into .the room in which the minister was en gaged in prayer.' Seeing the divine all of a sudden she ". shrieked and dropped the pail on the back of the minister. The pith of this story lies in the fact that on her entry into the room she was singing: Lord if I could only blot out the past. ' Little Miss Arollne Ellis went to Elgin today to tbe the guest today to be the guest of her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John Graham for several days. ,: . ' G. H. Harmon of Joseph, returned last night from Sacramento, where he was ' looking for a location. He did not close any deal and will con tinue to be a resident of the valley. Mr. and Mrs. James Miller of Port land,' arrived to spend several days with relatives, in the city. Mr. Miller ii traveling passenger agent for the O.-W. J. K. Wright of this city, went to Alicel this morning to superintend some work on the land owned by the La Grande Investment company.' He will return this evening. f W. F.
