Oliver has been In La Grande a few days on a visit with his sister,- Mrs. Fred Johnson, ' and his father. He is now a resident r of Lakeview and this is his only visit to La Grande in the past . seven years. His brother, A. V. Oliver, who recently left here for the reg--Port-hop smith, has.- a stock 1UJ1 AW ranch in Modoc county, California, just across the Oregon boundary. Another brother, Clark, is also large ly interested In the farm and stock industry in that section. Snow Deep On Hills. J. H. Blumenstein was down this week from his place near the summit of Mt. Emily, where he has supervis ory charge of the government trail and the look-out station. Chas. H. Chick .was up from Portland the latter part of last week on business in connection with a .probable transfer of his interests in the Placer mining property up the Grande Ronde river known as the Old Carson property.. No details of the reported transfer have been giv en out for publication. Send Apples South. E. Z. Carbine, of Fruitdale, . left this week with a carload of apples which he will take to southern Ari zona. His son and two sons-in-law ere interested in that section of the country and Mr. Carbine, also, has property interests there. He e.J( pects to be away a couple of months. ' Parkdale Club Meets. The bi-weekly meeting of the Parkdale club was held at the home of Mrs. Rynearson Wednesday after noon. There was a continuation of the discussion as to what should be done to help the mother on the farm. May Start Mill Soon. The mills of the Grande : Ronde Lumber Company at Perry, which have been idle the past three weeks - to make repairs, will probably re sump work the beginning of the com ing week. Logging operations have been - in progress during the tem porary shut down and this is in pre paration for what is expected to be a big run during the coming season, of his vocal talents and his zeal in Going to Kansas. Mrs. A. B. Blood, wife of Engineer Blood of the yard engine crew, will leave in a few days for Kansas to visit her mother. If Hmnessy in Rome, V George Hennesey, who will be re membered by many La Grande peo ple as the director in charge of the Catholic mission car which has made frequent visits to La Grande, is now in Rome on a mission in connection with his work in behalf of the exten sion of the church work and influeh- ce in America. Mr. Hennesey will be remembered chiefly on account of his vocal talents and his zeeal m the work which he has in hand. y Putting Up River Ice. 1 Fred Young is preparing to put up a large' quantity of natural ice from the Grande Ronde river. Last sea son Tie had a very large supply but at that he ran short before the sum mer season wded. He hopes this year to bein a position to meet all demands.
