The Christmas tree at the Lovely
school house on Smith's Mountain,
was a success, and it was a beautiful
sight. It was loaded with presents,
as well as a host of presents stacked
around the tree. To behold a tree
so well decorated speaks in itself
for the prosperity of the Smith Moun
tann residents in the past year. The
program was well rendered by pupils
of the school, under the direction of
Mrs. E. May Barton. . There were
also remarks and speeches by Messrs
David Scott, Gus C. Mahrone and Mr.
Barton, after which the presents were
distributed, and a bounteous supply
of candy and nuts, popcorn and apples
were enjoyed by young and young

Mr. Fred Brownlee a prosperous
merchant of Wallowa, was a guest
at the Christmas dinner of Mr. and
Mrs. John Riggle. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas and
Henry Thomas of Howard Meadow,
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gre
gory. John Fisher made two trips to Wal
lowa last week and brought out two
loads of flooring for his new resi
dence which he is building on his
ranch on Smith Mountain.
Mrs. Frank VictoK has been quite
sick for the past few weeks but is
improving slowly at this writing.
Monty Witty of Cricket Flat, is
now employed hauling logs for the
Scott Bros, mill on Smith Mountain.
Gus C. Mahrone spent Sunday at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Fish-
!er.
. Mr. Bert Oliver and family of Low
er Valley spent Christmas with his
sister and family, Mrs. E. May Bar
ton of Smith Mountain.
Mrs. Alma Huffman has moved in
to her new residence which the built
on her homestead this fall, on east
Smith Mountain.
I Mrs. Lon Wade drove her stock
from the range on the Mountain to
her farm in Lower Valley last week,
to feed for the winter.
