Various Matters Come Up at Mid
Week Session Last Evening.
At last night's meeting of the com
missioners and the manager some of
the old tilings that have been hang
ing fire for a number of months, some
almost a year, were disposed of. One
of the chief items was the- bill of
the Warren Construction company for
their work on the Second street sub
way. The attorney for the company,
Mr. Huntington, has been in the city
for a number of days conferring with
the city manager relative to the bill.
The old council approved-the, bill,
amounting to $664.40, and ordered

Work was begun" today on the foun
dation for new bottling works of the .
La Grande' Brewery;. The building
win"' enable the La Grande brewer
bottle beer direct from, the cask to
the bottle as required by the federal
government, thus (insuring the great- ,
est possible sanitary precaution. It
will put the home-works on a par,
with the best bottling- works' to be
found and will be a valuable addition.
The building is to be' 30x70, one story :
high. The -basement and foundation
will be of concrete, and the super
structure will be- of brick. It will
connect with the Foley hotel, giving
the latter a refrigerator plant in the
kitchen. John Mars is doing the con
crete work and George Hoist has the
contract for- the- brick laying. ,
Contractor Lou Wright is making
the forms fbr concrete and such other
carpenter work as will be required.
