Union, Dec. 30. (Special.) The
many friends 'of J. S. Galloway were
shocked to hear of his death which
occurred on Wednesday night at mid
night. Mr. . Galloway had" been a
patient sufferer from cancer of the
J throat and tongue for some time so
I that his death was not unexpected.
jHe was one of the early settlers of
.Union, having lived here for several
years. He leaves a wife and family
besides numerous friends . and ' rela
tives to mourn his loss. Mr. Gal
iloway was a good friend and neigh
' bor and the family have the sympathy
o the community in their deep
trouble.
The Christmas entertainments were
rather limited in Union owing to the
quarantine for scarlet fever. The
Presbyterian school sent each one of
the pupils a treat on ChristmaB
morning and it is needless to say that
they were very much enjoyed tby the
little people.
The C. R. of O. had an accident
Saturday evening which might have
proved a bad one but fortunately re
sulted in no fatalities to anyone ex
cept to two head of cattle. ' The
train was on its way to the Junction
, to meet the pony when' it ran into a
bunch. of cattle which was being
driven across the track and killed two
of them and partially thrbwing the
engine off the track. The trainmen
are, to be congratulated that no one
was hurt in the mixup.
Professors Giddings and Bradshaw
nie vifiting with friends in Union,
j during the holiday season. Both of
I the gentlemen taught in Union last
year and are welcome visitors in our
little burg.
. The Poultry association is plan
ning a bigger and better poultry
show than Union has ever had be
fore. The association held a meeting
Saturday ivcning to consider ways
and menns.
The ImsKetball boys are practicing
every evening under the coaching of
Professor Er .land. There will be a
game next week and everyone is
counting on a ho.ly contested game.

nigh'; was well attended, in fact too
much so as the crowd was so dense
as to bother the dancers; a lot of the
oldur peopls ' ee among the dancers.
