Other News Items of Interest From Union and Vicinity. Union, Dec. 17. (Special.) The health board reports the scarlet fever situation under control and no new casss hreported for more than a week. A strict quarantine is maintained and all suspected cases isolated. Churches and other public buildings will be open from now on. The schools will open January 29. It is thought that by these precautions that all danger is past , and that no new outbreak will occur. The death of Charlie Wilson is re ported from Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson went to California some time ago, for the health of Mr. Wilson had been poor for sometime. His death was not unexpected. He had lived in this vicinity for more than 30 years. His death will be much regretted by his friends. Dr. James Withycombe of 0. A. C. visited with his son Robert, a few days recently. Mr. and Mrs. Draper and family (have gone to California to spend the i winter'. ' '.... j Dr. Richardson was called in con sultation with Dr. McKinney on the case of Mrs. Rose Conlon, who is 'very sick with stomach trouble. Her recovery is very doubtful, John Phy, formerly a resident of Union, but now a resident of High land, California, is reported to be very ill and not expected to live. His many friends hope to hear of his speedy recovery. Mrs. Logan Anderson of Cove, is visiting with ; her sitser, Mrs. Ed. Miller. She is quite sick at present and is here for medical treatment. W. A. Terrall has been shakintr hands with old friends and renewing old acquaintances. He is well pleased with his home in South Dakota. The death of Edwin Elmer, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer of High Valley, is reported. The utwc fellow died from rheumatism The remains weer ih'terred at Summer ville. , . Leonard Morgan died from com plications following, an illness from scarlet fever. The little fellow was the son of Mr. and . Mrs. Clarence Morgan and a very bright, lovable, little fellow. The parents and sisters have the deepest sympathy of the community. We expect the O. A. C. delegation to be nt home for Xmas. Whether the town will be large enough to hold so much knowledge at one time re mains to be seen. Mrs. Dr. Law expects her niece Miss Lola Taylor from the Lewsiton normal school to visit with her dur ing the holidays. We got some of the prizes from the Portland fair if we did not get the first one. Union is on the mar when it comes to fine stock.
