NOTICE 18 HEREBY GIVEN That pursuant to the Provisions of
Ckptr 284, Laws of 1918, the county court of Union county, Oregon,
' will be in session on Wednesday, the 3rd day of December, 1918, at t o'clock
Lm. at the office of the county judge in the court house in the City of
Grande, Oregon, for the purpose of levying a tax upon the assessable
property of Union county, aa the aame appears upon the 1918 assessment
; nil of said county, at which time and place any taxpayer subject to such
' lcry will be heard in favor or against any proposed lavy. . Tax levies will

"It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or corporation
to sell, offer or expose for sale, any short weight butter within the State of
aegon. All butter sold or exposed or offered for sale in rolls, prints or
sajvares within the State ef Oregon, shall be plainly marked: 'Eight ounces,
Wl weight,' sixteen ounces, full whight,' 'twenty-four ounces full
weight,' or tUirtywo ounces, full weight, every roll, print or square
soM, offered or exposed for sale shall contain the number of ounces
ntarked thereon; and any person, firm, association or corporation violating
any of the previsions of this act, snail be deemed guilty of a misdemeanoi
and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine or not less than
826.00 nor more than $100.00, or by imprisonment in the county jail for not
less than six months; or both Buch fine and Imprisonment,"

Winter is just, dawning upon us out
here. The rhigh south wind blows
nearly all the time and there was a
great deal of snow with it last Thurs
day night, lasting all day Saturday,
being the first snow storm of the
season, ' .
; Mr. Hunt, the teacher, and all the
pupils of the Ladd Canyon school
J gave a delightful Thanksgiving pro
gram Friday night.

Bates, James McClure, G. W. Sawyer
are jubilant over the fact that they
have .completed a large ditch or levee
which has taken a good many hard
days of hard laboring. .These five
farm join, ' the levee extending
through them, meaning much to me
farms as it will carry away the high
water at various times which has
flooded and wasted many acres of
valuable land. ... .
Mr. and Mrs. James McClure have
moved to their residence in La
Grande for the winter. Ladd Canyon
people are aware of the fact that
they are losing good neighbors. .

Grande Sunday and spent, the . day
