Ml ' The Girls' Athletic association gave a get-acquainted party to all the girls of the high school Friday afternoon after school. Several games were played and refreshments' served. An all-round good time was had by all. It has been understood up to this time that Union would play the high on Thanksgiving day, but word was re ceived this week that for certain res sons the game had to be called off. A challenge was at once issjied ,. alumni, which they accepted. The game promises to be a very interest ing one, and although the alumni has only a week to prepare in, their heav ier weight and experience will bal ance it, On account of the teachers institute, there will be no school next week, thus giving all students time to prepare for Thanksgiving and also time ' to get over the effects of same. Sloppy and cold weather this week has made football practice somewhat difficult. On Friday practice was car ried on in two inches of snow. Tests in all branches on the past isx weeks' work were given Thursday and Friday. The cards will be in the first week after vacation. - The class in botany, has had for sub ject matter this week an oleander. This plant, which has been in the high ecnooi ior several years, has never blossomed and the class took it upon themselves to find out the reason why. Upon examining it they found micro scQpU insects covering it, which is probably the cause for its diseased condition. Specimens were sent to the experiment station at Union, where it will be examined. The question of a high school paper, which is to be truly representative of the La Grande High, is being agitated among the students. Wallowa, Pendle ton, Elgin, Baker, in fact nearly all of ,i;e surrounding high schools have their own school papers and it does not seem but right that the local high should not be represented in a similar way. Stephen Bunley, freshman; Eddie Graham, freshman; Cato Johns, sopho Farrell Murray, freshman, are all new students entering the high school this week. The high school team proper will be changed only to let Coach Rey nolds play with the high school. In the line the team will be selected from Woods or Bohnenkamp center, Young, Williamson, Grout and others for guard; Bohnenkamp, Bean, Rice and Sndier tackles, Garrity brothers, Peare and others ends, and the back field, too, will be well provided for. Chil ders, Carpy, Lottes, Bolton, Dad Irwin and otlkers will fill in the back field in tip topikhape. Most of these men par- ticipated in the playing last year whenS'f 5TV?J. the alumni trounced the high school decisively, but Bohnenkamp and Sni der of last year's 'varsity, will carry important roles with the alumni this year. There are fully 22 men, from which the alumni team will be picked and most of them used too, for few of them are in condition to withstand a smashing game probably. Geddes, Joe Williamson, Whitby and tVehrs are old-timers who are going to come back into suits. I . There is one thing about Wallowa's j high school football team it .is not afraid to tackle anything. The coming week will find plenty ol powder going up by the combustion route. Shoots are as thick as hair on a bear and a correspondingly large amount of money is going to be spent in buying powder and "antes" in tho shoots slated for the week. Stoddard Tuckey, Love, Caylor, Brooks, regulars, and Kirtley, Carr and Kohl, substitutes, form the Kirtley Carr bowling team which meets the Toggery team Monday night. This will be the first appearance of these men as members of that particular team. . Harry Bookman's record yesterday of 1346 in six games will stand for a few days. Patten, boss of the Club al leys, had a high score of nearly that made by Bookman in one game but 265 will no doubt stand for a time. Book man a few years ago was considered a very clever bowler and is apparentlly getting back to his old-time form. Fritz Lottes, captain of 1911 football team, was last night elected captain of the alumni squad. He has called signal practice for all candidates to morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock on the, hi eh school crounds, at which time the only real signal drill of the cam paign will be held. No suits will be necessary. . Baker, Nov. 22. A rabbit drive for next Tuesday is being planned by a number of local hunters, with George and Frank Lew in charge of the ar rangements, Already a large number have signified their intention of taking part in the drive, but just where it will be held has not been definitely decided. Automobiles will be provided and the plan of the hunters is to donate the game to those who desire rabbits for Thanksgiving. In fact, Mr. Lew stated last evening that the purpose of the drive was to provide rabbits for those who experience "the past few winters shows are glad to get and need them.
