There are ! athletes and athletic sportsmen in this worTW of sport. . Ba ker and La Grande have come into the clang of Athletic sportsmen. For three or four yea part, Baker and La Grande have been able to meet in mor tal combat on the field of play and both teams act the part of gentlemen; it was not always so on either side, but that is history; today the support ers and the teams are gentlemanly sportsmen, out to win, it is true, but win or lose, gentlemen always. Zimmerman and son, Russel, of West Falls, Malheur county, ar rived in La Grande and went out to Alicel this morning to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jasper. Mr. Zimmerman is a brother to Mrs. Jasper, but has never seen his brother-in-law. ; They will renrain a few days. O. S. Morrow of Coffeyville, Kas., was in the city looking at the valley and inspecting business conditions. He came here from Spokane, where he visited relatives. It may do people good to hear tk he says the valley is the most beautiful spot of ground he has seen in the northwest. Rev. C. H.
