a plowing demonstration at the ex
periment farm , given by C, S. Fuller,
a represfinative of the Bock Island
Plow company, with the C; Un
iversal plow, for which Smjth & Cad-
well, are 'the agents in Union.. The
plow .was pulled by four horses, cut
tint- a furrow eis-ht inches deep, nul
verizing the soil and reducing the ne
cessity of a-harrow to a minimum,
The land was turned, completely over
and all trash buried and the furrow,
left. is a clean and' satisfactory con.
dition. ' The demonstration was in
teresting and flattering comments

Mrs. Thomas Cock and Mrs.- Era
land were', hostesses at the regular
meeting of the-Missionary society of
the Presbyterian church.- The. meet
ing, was. held at the home of Mrs
Cock and Mrs. C. E. Da via presided as

county attorney plan is the .one pre.
vailing in Washington and in Califor
nia as well as many other states, and
with entire satisfaction. Whenever
there is need for his advice by other
officials of the county, he can be
found at home ready and prepared to
give it, and there is no delay in hav
ing to wait till he returns from some
other county where he may be attend
incr court This is one of the few
good bills passed by. the legislature.
In the counties of Union and Wallowa,
the county attorneys as provided in
the bill will draw $600.00 less than
is now paid by the state for such ser
vices. . .
The bill further provides that none
of the elective officials shall have
their salaries reduced or legislated
out of office, during their terms.
