(Special) Two literary societies were organized in high school tk:g week. One section is called the VBurns" and the other the ! Eutopian". Every two weeks a pro gram will be given by each in turn and both sections are contemplating hav ing the best program. The "Burns" give the first one next Friday after noon in the assembly hall, it consists of a good short entertainment as fol lows: Song by society; reading, Mil dred Schnore; vocal solo, Muriel Ba ter; piano duet, Hazel Graham and Miss Hudson; song, Clary s Fine, Iloine Leighton, Muriel Bater and Lot tie Neiderer; round society and lastly, several good rousing society yells. Everyone is urged to attend. . The new song books have arrived and all high school students are de lighted with Mr. Houston's choice of music. . . A. class has been organized in the Methodist Sunday school for all high school students and people of about that age. It has been named the class mates union. . Miss Clark the second, grade teacher, visited in Imbler over Sunday. Carl Heidenrichs, a former Elgin boy was in town this week. L. Furgason of Baker City, was in this city the fore part of the' week. Mrs. Maud Johnson, of Cove, is visit ing with her mother, Mrs; Chattin. Mrs. Rora Becker was in Enterprise transacting business the latter part of last week. I Miss Anna Emons has been spend ing a few days with relatives and friends in Enterprise. . Mr. Keifer, who is working in a La Grande garage, was here Saturday. Marve Hotchkiss cariie over from Wallowa Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Hamm and family left for Wallowa this week. Mr. Hamm was .formterly pastor of the . Elgin Christian church. Mr. Horn of Elgin, spoke in the Christian church Sunday. ( Lucian Shelton started to La Grande Saturday on his 'motorcycle, but found the roads too rough and came back. Mr. and Mrs. D. Hotchkiss and their daughter, Dorothy, went to La Grande Saturday. Fulton Meade was a passenger on Snturday night's train to La Grande. Stella and Delia Benshadler, who are staying, in town; spent Saturday and Sunday with their parents in the country. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Huur returned from La Grande Sunday'where they have been in attendance at the county fair. .Miss Elsie Vanderpool attended the Enterprise fair. The Misses Vera Hug, Nellie Par sons and Agnes McCartney went to La Grande Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Young of Pal mer Junction, are spending a few days with friends and relatives of this city. The Misses May and Ada Colt have been spending a few days in Wallowa county. Mr. and Mrs. J. Twilliger, of Milton, are spending a few weeks in Elgin with friends and relatives. The future residence of Dr. Wilson is nearing completion. The family intends to move very soon. , George FlugK, a member of the Record stuff, is spending a few days in Portlund. George Workman of La Grande, was in town a few days this week. Miss Bessie Thomas and Edgar Coe were united in marriage in La Grande the latter part of the week.
