Brbcgha Case Goea to Jury Early This
Morning Courtway Pleads. '
Past records of good behavior .and
his tender years stood William-Goatling:
a local boy of 19, in good hand
this morning when he was sentenced
for conspiracy in Btealing a horse from
E. D. Whiting. Goetling "was found
guilty .by' a local circuit court jury
this week and was sentenced to pay
a fine this morning of $100. The jury,
which found him guilty recommenced
extreme leniency for Goetling and Pre
siding Judge Morrow was presented
with a largely-signed petition for len
iency. Attorney R. J. Greene urged
leniency, and Sheriff Hug assured the
court that Goetling had been a model
prisoner, during the two months he has
been in jail. ' Prosecutor Ivanhoe urg
ed substantial punishment. To send
the defendant to the penitentiary, or
to pail or fine him, were three courses
before the court and Judge Morrow
'chose the last named. ' '
"To send this man to the peniten
tiary is to be a blot on his life that
can never be cured, and I can't find
; it in my heart to do so," said Judge
Morrow. "To send lnm to jail adds to
the expense of the county and f shall
fine him- $100. You owe it to your
self to make good any losses that Mr.
Whiting has suffered, however, and
your opportunity has now come td
make good.' Get right with yourself
