From Summerville. -, Summerville, Aug. ;27. 'Special) A number of people went up on Mt Emily " Sunday. They - were Mr. Choat, Mrs. Mary Choat, Mrs. Daisy Glenn, Bud Glenn, Miss Carol Glenn, Miss Thelma Choat. Miss Juinlta Choat, Miss Mira Glenn, and Mr. Clyde aicnenzie. Mrs. Frank Ott. and sons. Otto and Fritz, went to' their, farm: Bear La Grande, the latter art of the week. Miss. Edith Galloway, who has been visiting in La Grande (or some time, returned home Thursday. The various Sunday schools organ i zed in the country are progressing niefely. Last Sunday the pumpkin Kidge Sunday school gave a picnic. In the afternoon people visited and enjoyed themselves as picnickers do. Then alter a splendid dinner, a de lightful program was successfully ren dered. ... fcevera! of the Summerville young people attended the dance at Imbler Saturday night. . Sunday was the last' day of the ex cursion, eg well as the last time the Elgin band goes to Wallowa lake. Sev eral parties went from , Summerville and report having had a spledid time. Most of the fall grain threshing is completed in this end of the valley J Guy Glenn's thresher has been south of town ana win wests outzit nortn. From reports the farmers are satis fied with the yield this year, and go around with smiling laces. Several parties have gone huckle- berrying this week but report a great scarcity of berries, due to blight and perhaps the frost.. Miss Clara Pepper, who taught the seventh grade in Elgin last year, left for Gilford, Mont., last week, where she intends to resume her duis as teacher there this fall. Mrs. Julia Graff, with daughters Annie and Rachael, left for their home in Utah. They have been visit ing with friends and relatives in El gin and Summerville since the latter part of June. Miss Beatrice Littlefield, who at tended school in Eueene last winter, and was a prominent member on the debating team, may not be able to re turn to the University of Oregon, due to a severe illness of typhoid fever. ' Mrs. Wra. Bay is slowly recovering from the affliction of tvnhoid. Mrs .Guy Glenn " left . for Long Beach, where she will visit for about 10 days. Dunne her absence, her sons Elmer and Howard, will stay with their grandparents, Mrs. Childers and Mrs. T. T.431enn. Dillard Choate was on the sick list last week, but is able to be out now. Mrs. Walter Woods is still back east, where she was called to the bed side of her aged mother. The later is slowly reeainine streneth, but it may be some time before she has entirely reooveredv Lester Moore and family returned to their home near Summerville the lat ter part of the week. Miss Marcia Becker was in La Grande the latter part of the week. Miss Anna Niederer, Victor Nieder er and Lydia- M. The former was visitine with her sister.
