They have pitched camp near Miss Bragg's school. A large number of the younger peo ple of this city attended the dance given at Island City last evening by Ray Couch, James Irwin, Clyde Kid dle and Jas. Quinlan. The young peo ple motored or drove to the Island from this city and spent a very pleas ant evening at dancing as guests of the suburban young men. The Zion English Lutheran church ladies held a social at 805 N street, the home of the pastor, Reverend Drahn last evening.. , Invitations, are out for a masked character dancing party, to be given at Riverside park on Wednesday ev ening, August 27. ' The hosts, and hostesses for the evening will be the Misses Irene Murphy," Marjorie, Mc Call, Ethel Reith, and Mrs. Herman Seigrist; Messrs. Charles Ramsey, Walter Francis, Charles Williamson and Herman Seigrist. , On last Monday evening a pretty home wedding took place at the home of the groom, 905 Lake street, when O. A. Reitan and Ronghill Magnuson were united in marriage by Reverend Drahn of the English Lutheran church The bride wore & pretty gown of white lace over pale blue messaline. The home was tastily decorated with cut flowers, sweet peas being. the. funda mental. After the wedding ceremony a wedding dinner was served , the guests and after dinner dancing was the program of the evening. ' Many beautiful and costly gifts were show ered upon the bride and groom by their hosts of friends in this city. About forty guests were present at the ceremony. 'it;,v,-' .-: . . . ---... - Mrs. William Miller entertained most pleasantly at her home, 1102 B avenue, on Thursday afternoon of this week, complimentary to Miss Lilly Miller, of Atlanta, Georgia. A number of friends were Mrs. Miller's guests during the informal afternoon. . The Lady Maccabees last evening gave a miscellaneous shower in honor of Mrs. Myrtle Green, who on Septem ber 2, will become the bride of C. E. Duff ey, an electrician of this city. Mrs. Burt Hughes received the guests, Mrs. Harley Smith had charge of the program and Mrs. E. G. Adcock, Mrs. B. B. Nutter and Miss Lela Hough were the members of the refreshments committee. -About-r-60 ladies were guests during the evening to wish Mrs. Green much future hap piness. The out of town guests were: Miss Nellie Leake, Portland; Mrs. Fisher, Portland; Mrs. Wm. Anderson, Portland, and Mrs. Charles Smith ot Newberg. Mrs. J. H. Aikine entertained the Five Hundred club at her home, 1508 Fourth street, on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. William Allison won the prize. La Grande visitors at Hot Lake dur ing the week were: Miss Clara Pause, Mrs. A. B. Blood, H. ReDell, G. A. Hampton, Mr., and Mrs. John F. Dor dan, and Mrs. Kenneth Evans and daughter. . S. I. Belknap, of Enter prise; Mr. and Mrs. D. Sommers, of Elgin, were also visitors at Hot Lake. Mrs. W. G. Hunter and Mrs. Avery Harrison will entertan the social sec tion of Hope Chapter No. 13, at the Hunter, home in Island City on next Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Pfeiffer, at 1806 U and Cherry streets, Wednes day evening were very delightfully surprised by a group of 25 intimate friends. Mr. Pfeiffer is recovering from very serious injuries sustained in the employ of the O.-W. some time ago and returned home ' p the 13th. His friends planned his wel come home with a very pleasant sur prise party Wednesday evening. Miss Blanche Fridd and Miss Min etta Harlan, of Monmouth, who were victims of the accident which result ed in the sinking of the steamship California in Alaskan waters last Sun day, were school friends of Miss Zoe Bragg, of this city. Miss Bragg had planned to take a seaside trip with the girls before returning to school this fall and they were to have started within a few days. ' On Monday Miss Bragg was Informed of the sad death. of her schoolmates. '!" Perry, Ore., Aug. 23. Stoddard. Then a brisk game of Five Hundred was played, Mrs. Jacob H. Trayner carrying off the honors. It was decided that the next meeting of the club would be the resi dence of Mrs. N. Y. Stoddard. Testifying before the' house, Martin Mulhall today declared that McDermott, with turn, had got $2,000 in brewery Interests for the work done here.
