Gorsline each shipped a car of cattle to Port land this week. .- ' It is reported that Charley Wrenn, residing on the Jim Blakeley place, , north of here, was married one day this week. We failed to learn the lady's name. ' Hillery Mitchell, a brother of our Jimmy, and his wife have returned to their home in Portland, after a week's visit here with thej- relatives the Mitchell families and Stanley Hayes and family. Weldon Mitchell and family left this .week for Corvallis, where Wel don will assume charge of a sawmill for the present, Later on he will buy a farm down there if the country and climate suit him. ... , Mrs. John Dobbin of Union, her daughter, Mrs. ' Ewing, and grand daughter, Miss Florence Ewing, the latter two of P.f tland, are here visit ing their relatives Jay Dobbin and family. We are informed by Jim Wisenor that Ralph Russell, of Swamp creek, who is prospecting on Salmon river, Idaho, has recently made a valuable discovery in "Rubies" one of the rar est gems to be found in these moun tains. . Ralph lost no time in filing on the "claim." Hayes Reman is the first to begin the work of putting in cement side walks fronting his property just north of the Herald office ,as per or der cf the council. Nothing improves the appearance -jf a town or enhances the value of property so much as clean, well-graded streets and neat sidewalks. Let the good work go on. Mays Brothers' horses carried off a good share of the laurels at the races in La Grande Sunday, having won two firsts and one second. Jake Vemum has traded his Jo seph and Milton property for proper ty in Tacoma, where he" will move with him family within a few days. Mr. Sisson, who had been in the employ of the McCully Mercantile company, for several months, has re turned with his family o their home in Indiana. B. H.
