Miss Barnsetter of Pendleton, was a guest in the city last night on her way to Enterprise to be the guest of Miss Marie Browning. Mrs. Sprat Montgomery and Mrs. Ella Moon and her son, Jean, have gone to a well known huckleberry patch south of the city to spend a few days camping and picking berries. Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Andrews have returned from Wallowa lake. . While there Mr. Andrews took a side trip to Sheep creek near . the Imnaha and found ideal fishing. Mrs. Jess Paul left for Baker this morning after having been the guest of friends in this city for the past week. She will be in Baker a few days be fore returning to her home at Pendle ton. v ; ... ' CONCRETE TAKES DROP. Twenty Cents on Barrel Cheaper Saves 8 Cents Square Yard. . .Twenty cents on the barrel for con crete that may be used in the paving of Spring street-this fall if concrete base or concrete proper is used in the paving, were knocked off the price of the commodity this morning when word was received from the. principal mills supplying this city 'with con crete. It means if concrete in any form is used on Spring .street, a sav ing of eight cents on the square yard for the property owner. The bottom went out of the cement barrel during the past 24 hours. Pressure was brought to bear on cement mills when the question of concrete base or the straight concrete pavement for Spring street came up! by "Red Devil" Ed wards, a cement dealer. The up3hot was the 20 cents were pruned off the barrel price, the former quotation of $2.8$ - being cut to $2.45 per barrel. This price is applicable only to paving projects and does not. deal with other cement jobs at present at least. This reduces about half the difference in price for cement in the Willamette valley as compared to Union county. The cement contractors can sever 8 cents per square yard from their bids as a result of the slash. The entire reduction of the cost will be $1600 to the entire contract STREET CLEANER HURT. .1. C. Mr. Holmes had jump ed from a dumri cart and when he hit the pavement he slipped and fell. The horse was startled and started for- ! wnrd in such a manner that the wheel ran over Mr. Holmes' arm and broke the bones. Charges of contempt prefer red against the Masters-Ewoldt Lumber company, the Wenaha Lumber company and several in dividauls on grounds of alleged violation of an injunction re straining, the defendants from cutting timber on a certain piece of timber land in Lann canyon, and which was heard before Judge Knowles yesterday, result ed in dismissal of all defendants. 3 4 ' !
