Provide Religious In struction to Isolated Children. John E. Crymes, of the American Sunday School union, has been spend ing a few days at his headquarters here. He spent this month in Wal lowa county, where he succeeded in or ganizing seven Sunday schools. Last month Mr. Crymes established five schools in Union county, while in May he perfected eight organizations in Baker and Union.. Since May 1 twenty Sunday schools have been or ganized and a dozen or more existing visited." This is a great work and our people should all lend a helping hand. (Special) Shortly after noon yester day John Mulvehill was struck by an engine, but not seriously injured. The man was sitting beside the track on the siding and as the engine came by he stort of toppled over and the en gine struck him, cutting a scalp wound, but not serious. Dr. Irvine dressed the wound and sent the man to the hospital in La Grande. The man is said to have been under the influ ence of liquor at the time. This community-was shocked at the news of the death of V. E. Bean, who was killed last Saturday. Mr. Bean lived here last year and had made many friends. Mrs. Bean and family have the sympathy of all in theif be reavement O. B. Hughes of Portland, a P. F. E. official, was in town the first of the week. Marshall Ashby returned from La Grande Wednesday with some stolen property that he had been there look- ins: for. Kidwell & Caswell of Portland shipped a corload of cattle to Walla Walla, Wash., and two carloads to Portland this week. J. W. Chandler shipped a carload of hogs to Portland last Saturday. Mrs. P. L. Smith and Mrs. Sid Gibbs and two children were passerr gers for La Grande Tuesday. C. Q. Lambert left this morning for his home in Ritzville, Wush., after a visit wtih his brother, A- E. Lambert. Mrs. E. J. Metzler, Mrs. Wm. Coughanour, and Mrs. G. C. Scheurer and little son Gerald, spent Wednes day in La Grande. The M. M. Gilkison hay baling out fit left today for the J. B.
