This morning he hand ed in his resignation and boarded No. 17 for Portland. He srave as his reason a telegram f rorti the Kerr-Gif ford Grain company of Portland advising his immediate return to his old posi-; tion as bookkeeper with them becruse of the busy season but it is believed that the action of some of the fans in persistently criticizing him on and off the diamond had something to do with his decision. His action came up. expectedly and was not announced to Vice President Ritner until late in the morning. ' ' Al Lodell, popular first baseman of the team, has been appointed to suc ceed McKune as field captain and the managerial end of the club will be handled by Ritner and John Dickson. Lodell is an old head in the game and acted as field captain during a por tion of the 1912 season. Karl King will be played at third base today but a"n effort will be made to secure an other infielder as soon as possible. The resignation of McKune is quite likely to preface a considerable shake up in the team. It is rumored per sistently that several blue slips will be issued within the immediate future and new players signed.
