WALLOWA GOES TO SECOND
,, , PLACE THIS WEEK.
Naughton, Ex-Spud, Goes Seven In
nings Without a Score Sunday.
Wallowa pushed herself into second
nlace in the Branchline league yester
day when she dumped Elgin into the
cellar, and Enterprise tumbled the La
Grande Moose into the baseemnt as
company for the Indians. La Grande
lost 9-4 at Enterprise, and Elgin lost
8-1 at Wallowa. Smith allowed 10
hits and Culver four. .
At Enterprise Ray Oliver had an
off dav and the Enterprise crowd lam
med in nine runs in two innings or
so. "Naughty" Naughton, ex-bpud
infielder. immediately earned for him
self new renown when he went to the
hill and for the first time in his car
eer, pitched seven innings. "Naugh
ty" has nothing on eajth in the pitch
ing line except a windup and this was
so astounishingly big-league like that
he completely jinxed the Enterprisans
and narry a runner crossed the pan af
crht.v" cot his winduD jroing.
Scranton was another new face in the
Moose line-up- lacing out a iwo-dbk
firet HmA nn and L. Oliver like
wise found Kellum, who pitched for
tfntftmrise. for a two-bagger. Kellum
was formerly a barber in this city.
